Mission: Getting Ready (Character Development)OUTPOST
Location: Kalkarindji Outpost

"Morning All, how are we this fine morning." The accent was heavily Scottish. The man was not as big as Savage's lot, but he wasn't small.

"I'm getting a bit......"

"Yes, unfortunately this came up rather quickly and I needed you all here together. I've already briefed Maddison." Duncan MacGregor interrupted. "Another large puddle of debris has been located.."

"Garbage?"
"I'm beginning to think one of us upset you MacGregor."

"Another large puddle of debris has been located. The area was scanned twenty-four hours prior and it was clear. Twenty-four hours later and it was there. We've checked as much as we can, and we passionately believe that it was definitely beamed into the area, according to Maddison, that is not the way of, those who are responsible for the ships and their crew going missing. And according to our Miss Maddison, it would require an extremely delicate touch at the beamer controls. Those at Starbase 688, didn't react in time. There was no more than nineteen hours from appearing till making contact with 688. Three life pods made it away, containing babies, two nurses and an armed marine on each. That makes the death count now one hundred and eighty-two thousand, six hundred and thirty-seven. There is absolutely no other way to put it, but someone is using this method to target and destroy Starfleet Stations. We were able to retrieve several items from the site which hadn't been beamed back to whoever beamed it in the first place. But like the others, we are now firm believers, that it is being beamed into range, allowed to impact in two or more waves, then the rest are being retrieved."

"And you want us to do what?"

"We would like to have several interested black element ships and their crews to investigate the remains of the Starbase, and if you can recover the 'black box'." Duncan looked at Ilyce. "We would like you to increase your patrols. We have three Academy ships heading 113's way. According to our Miss Maddison, we should be able to destroy the garbage cloud with phasers or a TBHJM553. Without causing the 113 or Kalkarindji any issues."

"You don't want the debris brought onboard?" Sympathy asked.

"No. That being said however, if someone can think of a way to get it onboard, so specific people can get a closer view, we'd happily have them show up on your doorstep."

"How very nice of you Duncan." Ilyce answered. "Do you have any idea how likely 113 is to become a target?" Ilyce wanted to know.

"113, unfortunately has families onboard. So it is on the probable attack list." Duncan stated. "However, 113 is out of the area's presently targeted. That is not totally taking it off the probable target list. We are looking at coming up with a list of methods to allow volunteers to wade through the garbage field. Starbase 8, had a cloud of garbage build up over time, until it fully surrounded Starbase 8. For some reason, it was held in place, by 8's gravity pool. It meant that the cloud couldn't get close enough to damage 8. It also meant that no vessel could dock with 8. We'd like a couple more of the same, which would give us time to investigate up close and careful."

"I'm very thrilled, that you are looking at coming up with a list of methods to allow volunteers to wade through the garbage field. Let me guess the rest. When it comes to thinking the out of the ordinary, contact Black." Ilyce stated.

"How long between appearances?"

"Nine and fifteen weeks. And we're currently at the eleventh week."

"Exactly how does it start?"

"There's usually something happening near or around the station. Bits of garbage start to appear. People think the garbage caught up in whatever was happening, but slowly more garbage appears. By the time it's confirmed, it fits the other incidents. It starts to interfere with the stations communications. Garbage pieces attach themselves to the station's hull. Anything smaller than the average size shuttle can also attract the garbage. We've requested any station with a Star Fighter wing, and a high level of cargo or population carriers be on the look for any signs, and increase their patrols."

"And we just so happen to have a cloud of body parts heading our way." Ilyce looked at Sympathy. "Suggestions?"

"That we all get ourselves transferred to the Halo?" Sympathy suggested.

"What sort of garbage?"

"Now that's very interesting. So far, everything from toilet paper, to written off SF or marine fighters. From lolly wrappers to lingerie. From pot plants to first aid equipment. From Warp Coils to hull plating. Linen to chairs. Plastic toys to missile or torpedo casings. Consoles to corpses. Prams to replicators. Most of the attacks have a lengthy list of garbage items. One attack had pieces of an exploded SF vessel." Duncan stated. "Each of the pieces were coated in an explosive, but they had had some other element included, which meant it could be banged against the station without exploding. According to our list of explosive specialists, somewhere in the mound of garbage should be another element which somehow triggers the rest."

"So, Kalk is not a target but 113 could be."

"Afraid so. Kalkarindji works on a different realm. It's well known that Ivanov will blow anything out of the area if they breach a certain perimeter. 113 is SF guided." Duncan stated. "You follow the rule book, most of the time. Ivanov walks through it."

"Will this new hull plating, do anything?" Ilyce asked.

"We aren't sure. We hope so, but we aren't absolutely sure." Duncan brought up another image, and it plastered itself on the wall. "This is the USS Nottingham, or what's left of it. It managed to get some of its crew off. Our specialists have concluded that someone had to be extremely close, and sat waiting, guiding pieces to hit certain zones, to inflict so much damage. This happened twenty-two days ago. We have confirmed that it is the same explosive. It is now believed that the stations were trials."
